Mobile Tracks

Data captured using StreetLight's Mobile Track data allows comparison of vehicle speed to posted speed limit.GPS-enabled devices, including Smart Phones and navigation devices, have become ubiquitous throughout the transportation system and offer enormous opportunities to collect and interpret transportation behavior data. StreetLight offers two mobile track capabilities:

  • Mobile track creation via Smart Phone apps (and SDKs):  StreetLight enables clients to instrument their own Smart Phone apps to log detailed transportation information. StreetLight's approach is automatic and does not require user interaction: once downloaded, the app "sleeps" in the background until it senses that the user is on the road, at which point it begins to log data. This approach reduces lost trip tracks, eliminates driver distraction, and minimizes battery and data plan usage.
  • Mobile track data processing: GPS data can be very messy, especially when generated by Smart Phones or when collected infrequently. StreetLight’s suite of proprietary algorithms and filters uses pattern recognition and external data feeds to convert low-fidelity and low-frequency GPS data to high-fidelity trip descriptions, including driver demographics, trip purpose, etc. StreetLight's algorithms work for GPS data from a variety of inputs, not limited to StreetLight's own mobile apps.
