What you need to know
The COVID-19 pandemic kept many American home, with daily Vehicle Miles Traveled decreasing by more than half in many cities in the Spring of 2020. By Autumn, many cities were back to normal, and for the full year 2020, total VMT was down 14%.
Luckily for greenhouse gas emissions, new bicycling and walking habits formed during the pandemic held in many areas, with the Sarasota, FL metro area topping StreetLight’s list of most bicycle travel per capita and the Orlando metro with most pedestrian travel per capita.
