What is the purpose of this document?

This document explains the collection, use, disclosure, and retention of employees’ personal information by StreetLight Data, Inc. (“StreetLight”). 

It applies to part-time and full-time employees as well as people who apply for a job at StreetLight. All provisions apply to all StreetLight employees wherever they are located, unless otherwise specified. In all instances, StreetLight complies with applicable laws and regulations and they take precedence over this notice. 

By personal information, we mean any information related to an identifiable individual including your name and contact information, information about your eligibility to work, job performance, payroll, and other information we use to manage our relationship with you.

Why do you need my personal information?

We need your personal information to manage our relationship with you and to operate our business, and we only collect the information that is necessary for those purposes. If you don’t provide your personal information, we cannot enter into or continue our employment relationship with you.

  • Managing the hiring process
  • Managing the employment relationship
  • Managing payroll and benefits
  • Managing technology and tools that you use
  • For compliance with regulations and internal rules
  • Security and safety

What kind of employee personal information do you collect and use?

Your personal information is provided by you directly (such as name and address, bank information), or created based on your activity within the company (such as performance reviews). Here is the kind of information that we need from you for the purposes listed above:

  • Information needed for managing the hiring process, employment relationship, and payroll and benefits: your name, date of birth, marital status, preferred language, personal contact information, emergency contact information, social security/social insurance number, resume, CV, cover letters, letters of recommendation, background screenings, declarations of conflict of interest, tax withholding, employment status, employment agreements, accommodation information and agreements, information required for employment benefits granted to the employee, training information, performance data, call recordings, banking-related information, travel expenses, health and safety information.
  • Information needed for complying with external rules: passports, visas, and other identification papers (if applicable to the employee’s position), as well as documents establishing that the employee has the ability to work in Canada or the United States (including information concerning the employee’s nationality and the employee’s immigrant status, if applicable and where authorized by law), information needed for equal employment and equal opportunity purposes, information needed to comply with right-to work laws.
  •  Information needed to manage your use of technology and tools: user names, passwords, company email address, communication using internal messaging apps, geolocation data when using certain applications, logs.
  • Information needed for compliance with regulations and internal rules: information resulting from surveillance activities relating to the technology systems, information on the use of Internet and telephone networks and/or mobile applications, information regarding access to Intranet pages, information gathered during internal investigations (which may include any of the information listed in this notice, as well as communications, emails, instant messaging, call recordings, testimonies).
  • Information needed for security and safety: authentication or access data relating to the facilities or computer systems (including identification codes, passwords and magnetic cards), video surveillance, magnetic card system, vaccination status and other health information as permitted or required by law.

Will you share my personal information with people or organizations inside or outside the company?

We are committed to maintaining the privacy of your personal information. 

Your information will only be accessed on a need-to-know basis by people inside our organization, such as the HR department, or your reporting line.

We also may share it with the following third parties for the purposes outlined above: 

  • Service Providers. We may hire service providers to help us with our business, and these service providers may need to use your personal information (for example, a payroll company or benefits provider).
  • When required by law. We will disclose your personal information if it is permitted or required to comply with our legal, regulatory or administrative obligations.

How long will you keep my personal information?

We will keep your personal information only as long as it is necessary for the purposes listed in this document. 

How do you secure my personal information?

We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect your personal information and prevent unauthorized access to it. We use additional safeguards to protect your personal information when it is particularly sensitive.

Can I access or correct my personal information?
