Special events traffic management

Maintain predictable traffic flow and travel reliability during major events

Monitor, manage, and evaluate traffic conditions before, during, and after games, concerts, weather and other events using real-time and historical data. No hardware required, filling coverage gaps where sensors or cameras don’t exist.

Get started

Proactively manage event traffic and closures with continuous operational visibility of your network—without any hardware

Respond to planned and unplanned traffic disruptions and their network ripple effect with real-time and historical data directly from your computer.

1
Anticipate demand surges

Replay traffic conditions from past events to identify likely bottlenecks, queue formation, spillover routes, and peak arrival/departure periods before events begin.

2
Monitor live conditions on day-of-event

Track speeds, travel times, queues, and incidents in real time across all road types.

3
Defensible after-action reporting

Compare event-day traffic conditions against typical conditions or prior events to evaluate recovery times, validate operational strategies, and build repeatable event playbooks.

Better manage traffic disruptions with validated data and insights

Get started
Ingress and egress management

Understand how traffic builds, shifts, and clears around venues, downtown districts, and major corridors to reduce gridlock, improve travel reliability, and support smoother arrival and departures.

Stakeholder and agency coordination

Provide a shared operational picture across DOTs, cities, transit agencies, and venue operators to improve coordination and support faster operational decisions during rapidly changing conditions.

Multi-event corridor planning

Analyze how traffic behaved during previous events to better coordinate schedules, closures, and traffic control strategies across overlapping events, construction activity, and corridor disruptions.

Public communication & traveler messaging

Support communications with traffic insights that help explain delays, validate complaints, communicate expected impacts, and improve public trust during major events.

Measuring the impact of the Super Bowl and Taylor Swift concert on congestion

Get started
The challenge

Taylor Swift’s concert at Allegiant Stadium caused more traffic jams than the Super Bowl. For event operators and transportation agencies, major events put a huge tax on traffic flow especially when unplanned incidents occur.

Data-based solution

To understand how traffic trends played out and compare the impact against other recent major events at Allegiant, StreetLight used its Traffic Monitor product, equipped with near-real-time speed and traffic activity data. This includes a time-lapse of traffic trends measured by atypical volume, speed, atypical speed, and atypical delay. Understanding these traffic patterns can help event operators study and improve traffic plans for events and construction projects to reduce congestion.

Our customers

See why they chose StreetLight

It helps us understand the full visitor journey, not just arriving at the venue, but what happens after, so we can keep learning from real weekends and keep improving the experience.
Jay Konomos
Senior Director, Enterprise KC
It was surprising how much public perception of travel times was different from the actual data, we realized that not everyone is playing scientist while they are driving.
Kate Morley
Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (NAIPTA)
Now that we have StreetLight, we can broaden the corridor, look at alternative roadways, intersecting roadways, more details on where transit id, and we can look at the context of the whole corridor, not just little pieces one at a time.
