Pinpoint and mitigate disruptions in construction zones with immediate insights across your entire network

Prevent the ripple effect of snarled traffic with on-demand volumes and speeds on all your roads.

1
Proactively manage traffic

Before the build, visualize traffic patterns and simulate road closures to optimize construction windows, ensure safety compliance, and develop data-driven detour plans.

2
Communicate travel conditions

During construction, monitor real-time traffic flows and observe queuing behavior to dynamically adjust plans and create targeted public messaging about disruptions.

3
Guide confident decisions

Post-project, analyze shifts in travel patterns and generate reports to quantify improvements to road conditions and validate project success.

Georgia DOT manages construction on a busy interchange without jamming traffic

Read case study
The challenge

GDOT needed to solve congestion on the I-285/SR 400 interchange. Traffic volume data was scarce because no physical counters existed on new roads, and many older counters were removed during construction.

Data-based solution

GDOT gained instant access to real-time traffic volumes and speeds from StreetLight on all major roads in the construction zone to advise the contractor on optimal days and times for lane closures. The team got the needed evidence to close lanes and get more work done faster without worsening congestion, which provided huge time and cost savings over the manual counts they had done in the past. GDOT knew commuters felt the difference because there were zero complaints from the public to their 511 number about traffic conditions.

Our customers

See why they chose StreetLight

The data has certainly saved time in GDOT’s ability to respond to requests for lane closures and detours submitted by the [project developer] by eliminating the need for extensive, time-consuming calculations to determine traffic volumes and speeds at various times of day. Time savings also always equate monetary savings.
Marlo Clowers
Design-Build Program Manager at GDOT
The value of Streetlight was apparent to us very quickly when we used the Construction product to observe newer travel times, delays, speeds, congestion, and volumes impacted by recent development near a design project. The near real-time data confirmed what we thought the traffic movements would be and gave us further confidence in some of our road reconfiguration decisions. It is useful when data backs up your expectations.
Kyle Shuck
Project Engineer, District 5 Design
The advantage of Streetlight over PeMS is its reliability. We no longer [have to] rely on the health of the road sensors or local street data to figure out where detour traffic is heading. Without StreetLight, we were often forced to make a judgment call without the most recent data.

FAQs

Quick answers to questions you may have

Discover everything about the StreetLight’s Construction product features, benefits, and more.

What is real-time traffic data?

Real-time traffic data is data that is collected on how vehicles are moving right now. We offer real-time, near real, and historical data on traffic patterns to assist in maintenance of traffic planning and rapid response traffic management during construction projects. Real-time speeds and incident feeds are updated as frequently as every 3 minutes, so you get insights on how traffic patterns are changing right now.

How can real-time traffic data benefit construction projects?

StreetLight customers can use real-time traffic data to stay on top of traffic patterns (such as vehicle speeds) that impact traffic flow and safety during construction projects, enabling quicker response times to resolve traffic disruptions or safety concerns as they occur.

Real-time data can also be paired with historical data to further contextualize current conditions and assist in the planning process, helping you identify optimal lane closures, plan detours, and facilitate communication with public and private stakeholders. These advantages help shorten project timelines, reduce public complaints, and save money.

How recent is the data in the Construction product?

The Construction product dashboard includes instant always-on access to real-time and historical data. This allows practitioners to compare real-time disruptions to typical conditions, including when volumes exceed or fall below normal thresholds. For practitioners working on Active Traffic Management, we offer a continuous speed feed updated in real-time every 3 minutes.
